Oh, Wintertime!A Poem by NealMy response to a Warsaw Writers Group prompt concerning our love of winter.
Oh, wintertime!
It’s tough to recall I once loved winter With childish skiing, sledding and snowball slinging Now it’s just bitter cold, snow and winds a-stinging
Oh, now I enjoy winter in ways you know Frozen fingers, nipped cheeks and reddened nose Scraping glass, sliding steps and shoveling chores Monochromatic landscapes with a lack of sun Bundling up, clunky boots and snow to the chin Cabin fever, heating bills, and bulging abdomen
Oh, where is that spring? These are rough times We all beg for slightly warmer climes Weather folks tell us more bad winter news Warmth still months away just leaves us blue Better pray for global warming when it’s minus two
Oh, wintertime It’s so baffling I once loved winter!
