Memory

Memory

A Poem by Neha agrawal

Last night,
I reached for you.
Not out of habit,
but hope.

The sheets were cold.
The space beside me,
louder than silence.

I closed my eyes
to find you in dreams,
but memories came instead
warm, stubborn,
unforgiving.

Your skin, your breath,
your weight against mine.
I remember it all.

And still,
memory doesn’t fill the space
where you should be.

that's the thing about memories the bad ones bring hurt or anger and the good ones create either longing or emptiness - nice work - carl

Thank you so much😊
Neha, this poem gently broke my heart, but in a strangely soothing way. I haven’t felt this kind of separation myself (my husband and I are basically attached at the hip--by choice, not accident!) … but your words might just prepare me emotionally for his next trip abroad. If flights weren’t so pricey, maybe I’d just tag along and skip the poetic ache altogether. 🙈

Your final lines carried a quiet weight, so beautifully phrased. I hope my light interpretation doesn’t distract from the depth of your piece. Thank you for sharing this raw and moving reflection.

Wow I've read this write but I went back to read because like your title it made me think of an old love, made think of dreams of one love I've forgotten, your imaginary of your words made feel that day, such flow I couldn't stop reading until the ending it was just a dream.
Good play on words
Excellent Write.

I am glad you decided to publish this in ‘raw’ form. Any refinement might have robbed the deep vulnerability that the words currently convey so unapologetically and beautifully of course. Thank you. Good read.

I have read that touch has a memory all its own. It certainly brings this to life.

Thank you and I am glad it resonates you in a way.
it's so hard missing someone in our lives, sometimes memory is all we have left to fill up that void. this is a delicate write with images that emote. the last stanza tells all, memories can't replace the person. very well, thanks for sharing this write, Neha!

Thank you so much for reviewing my work.
Your poem demonstrates the power of the heart to remember, desire, and feel a loss that is heavy to bear and penetrating. It's like your soul is speaking. I like this.
