Memory

Memory

A Poem by Neha agrawal

Last night,
I reached for you.
Not out of habit,
but hope.

The sheets were cold.
The space beside me,
louder than silence.

I closed my eyes
to find you in dreams,
but memories came instead
warm, stubborn,
unforgiving.

Your skin, your breath,
your weight against mine.
I remember it all.

And still,
memory doesn’t fill the space
where you should be.

beautiful! sublime, universal and so relateable to me... i especially like how your poem contrasts the difference between memories sparked hope, not habit ... brilliant says i!! simply brilliant ... long lived relationships ingrain out thoughts out of carved roads walked together ... when that is shattered and we know it's over ... oh how difficult ... for a while we do hold out hope that they come back ... so difficult ... nice work Neha!

Thank you so, so much. Your words mean more than you know. You understood the heart of the poem.
At my age, I have so many memories...of those who passed by me, and those who passed on.
They feel a large space and yet it feels like a void.
Oh the weight of that.
I like this poem.

Thank you for sharing your truth... and for finding something in the poem that spoke to you.
If this is a story of loss, I hope it's temporary. Memories can only be surrogates for so long. Beyond that, there is only mourning.

Beautifully said. I think you're right memories can carry us only so far before the ache returns.
This is genuine feeling. The loneliness sincere.
I think we all have felt this.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much😊
I just read this again, it is really so beautifully written and I (and I'm sure so many others) can relate. Thank you for putting a feeling that is hard to describe into words to let others know that they are not alone in feeling this way. I especially loved the last stanza, with a shift in tone is so true.

So soft and haunting. The way you wrote absence as something physical hit deep. Beautifully done
