Blackbird Flying over Belfast Lough

Blackbird Flying over Belfast Lough

A Poem by Neil Burns
"

A poem, a modern take (not a translation) of the 9th century Irish Gaelic poem, The Blackbird of Belfast Lough

"
Blackbird Flying over Belfast Lough
A black-dart fleeting,
the yellow bill truth of it.
The hue call, the rip-curl.
Over Belfast Lough, sung
freely. Free from persecution.
II
Journeying from white-spray
flying toward this foetal island.
In the thicket of shore branch,
canvassing the cloth-work
ground, for a grub - Blackbird.

This is a nice, pleasant little poem you've written here. Usually, when people use blackbirds in poems, its meant to be something dark, but it's good to see somebody changing up that formula! Great job! :)
