Sue

Sue

A Poem by Nel Volune
"

Once a trail in the snow... Did you ever feel at home ?

"

Once a trail in the snow

Did you ever feel at home ?
People said her parents were gone.
In an ease to tell they wouldn’t return.

Like we would pour water in a pond.

But what’s happening on Sue’s side ?

Have you ever taken her hand ?
Drift it in the sand, she’d make a good friend.

Sue sighed.

Kids jumping ropes, shouting their hopes.
Can she borrow your smile ?
Or maybe we’ll burrow it at night,

In the garden where they took her.
She’d like to share your shelter, but…

Don’t mind her, Sue is shy.

Every once in a while,

A special day, they’d walk a mile.
As people said, they always used to smile.
Never would have guessed the reason why…

And in this garden of theirs,

They wished for some to forget their nightmares.

But what went on, on Sue’s side ?

Befriend with me or be nigh,

I keep my promises as they keep me alive,

Please don’t let her, Sue, aside.

I keep my promises, that’s what keeps me alive,

Won’t you let her, Sue, aside ?

Did you ever feel at home ?

People said her parents won’t come.

Back when you were young,

Did you see how were her eyes ?

No one looked at it as Sue sighed...

There’s one thing she’d always do,

And you remember, don’t you ?

The way she waved back at you,

When the first day she said that’s where she’d meet you.

So this day, where were you…

Befriend with me or be nigh,

I keep my promises, and they keep me alive,

Please don’t let me, Sue, aside…

I keep my promises, that’s what makes me alive,

Under lock and key, this garden I used to grow with,

Wither with her or be shy, since you can play with,

Don’t let her, Sue, aside. Don’t let her, Sue, aside…

Once a trail in the snow,

Did you ever feel at home ?

Flowers in my garden always grow.

People say that’s where she used to go…

This feels almost more like a song, it flows very well. This poem is laced with loneliness in a way that feels so eerie, an inner pain or scream for help, just vague enough it keeps you wondering what it was actually about.
Amazingly written!
