Waiting for Cancer

Waiting for Cancer

A Poem by Neville
"

That's life

"

Waiting for Cancer

Today we were friends

Then became strangers again

Living in a city full of danger and pain

Waiting for cancer

Today we were lovers

For a brief moment in time

Living in a city full of losers and shame

Looking for answers

Today we were victims

Then we were rescued again

Living in a city full of rumour and stains

Waiting for freedom

Today we were voyeurs

Then were martyred again

Living in a city full of slander and guilt

Waiting for purpose

Today we were judged by the guilty

Living in a city full of psychos and claims

Waiting for retribution

Today we drew the short straw

Then were surplus to requirements

Living in a city full of prophets and blame

Waiting for religion

Today we are but a memory

Consigned to a handful of albums and history

No longer waiting for cancer

Waiting for nothing

...

this seems a bit different...not really about actual Cancer, but more how society is diseased...and we keep looking for cures as society destroys itself from within...like cancer destroys...

and we pray for answer...this is such a poignant write with all that is happening today...
really good work, Neville.

You've certainly summoned up all that life/death has to offer here, its like not so subtle punch in the gut. Could be about cancer, relationships, or most days in the life of... either way...you bring it!

Bless ya Paloma & as always, much appreciated, cheers....N
We are all waiting for cancer, or some death. I personally hope it's quick. I shall take to parachuting on a regular basis once my kids are grown and gone. No sense waiting for disease, might as well live it up.

Tis true. Thank you. Would love to help....N
Intense. Packed with experiences anyone who is fully alive will recognise. The last verse is like an assassin's blade. But as you say, that's life. And it's a poet's job to sum things up as sharply as possible and this one is sharp. But sharp is better than being deluded. Life nailed.
