Constance exclaimed at the top of her voice

Ollie come here man and be quick d'ya hear

My fritillaries are out and me petticoats off

Tis freezing for this time o year…

 

Aye m’lady of that there’s no doubt  

An wot a mighty sight they might be

If ya give me a tick I will try an be quick

I got a poppy here I want thee to see

 

Then as quick as a flash

Before the master got back

Lady Chat & her lover entwined

At the back of’t yard

Gainst re-claimed brick wall

Where the clematis and celandine climbed

 

The rest is now history of course

Their story got banned and

DH Lawrence got panned

But hey it was fun while they were flying

Twas norty of course

But could o bin worse

Of that there can be no denying …..

I can remember when this book was published and the court case. My friend's mum had a copy and we read all the juicy bits when she'd gone out shopping. I think I was about 12/13 then. So prudish we all were back in those days. It all seems so tame to what you can see and read now. It was a bit of fun Neville, and you took me on a trip back and I was reminded of a friend that I was very close to then, but haven't seen for years. You got me thinking of her, all through this poem. Great stuff.
