Is it a nightmare or deep dark wish? In a hypnagogic experience it is hard to tell . Our subconscious holds so many secrets... some of them are astonishing, some are downright frightening.

It's entirely my pleasure. Thank you for sharing your brilliant writing.
i really like this poem and can feel the frustration and heartbreak of the person spoken of in the poem...reminds me of the only song i ever liked by Pat Boone..."Moody River"---

Wow Neville, I have read this quite a few times now. Each time I read it at first, l felt something sinister. "Her lover smiled, as she slipped away". I feel sure that this poem can be read on several levels but I keep coming back to the fact that He wanted to do her harm. And I was left with the feeling that I hoped the echoes of her would haunt. But then I read it a few more times, and I got a completely different picture, I saw someone on their death-bed slowly slipping away and He was by her bedside, comforting her, one step away from the hell of losing her and the heaven of having her still with him. Multi layered. Maybe I have been watching too many horrors on tv. Anyway I am glad that I stuck with this, because I far prefer the second interpretation which I found to be very moving. Poetry is so subjective and each reader will find something different in the lines. Anyways I enjoyed the read, several reads and your poem is well written.
