Dedicated to a perfume created the old fashioned way by Maurice Blanchet in 1932....

As far as my nose

and associated olfactory nerves are concerned

There is no finer smell on earth

than Je Riviens by Worth

 

And did she ever wear it well

The merest drop dabbed lightly on those pulse points

and evenly rubbed in

 

Drawn from an insignificant blue glass bottle

Sheathed in a leather pouch

 

No doubt Scent from heaven

But created by Maurice Blanchet in 1932

I have revisited this oldie of yours as a thank you for delving into my archives :) Not long after I read this, I actually purchased a bottle of Je Reviens. I had mentioned California Poppy as being a favourite of my Nans but she also wore this one. So I too now have a little blue bottle of nostalgia. Not in a pouch, it came in a box and from time to time when I think of my lovely Nan, I dab it on the pulse points.

There is something nostalgic Neville in this poem. Manufactured in 1932 and still on the go today. I do believe it was one of the perfumes my Nan wore, Californian Poppy being another favourite. The latter you could buy in Woolworths. (Sadly no longer with us). And yes, I do remember those very small dark blue bottles. Tiny they were. I am left wondering, who used to wear this perfume. Was it a mother, grandmother, an aunt? Whoever it was, they left a fragrant memory behind. I enjoyed this poem Neville and the memories it brought back of my family members no longer here. I think they might still make it... Je Riviens though is something else.... I have known three to wear nothing else... and I have been known to dab a bit behind my ear now and then........ Hello Neville, I bet it must be wonderful if three people you know have not worn any other perfume. That is true dedication. I try different ones all the time. Keep on dabbing. mmmm can smell if from here.

Strange everyone is so different.. I tend to stick with just two men's fragrances.... not at the same time tho....

There is so much more choice nowadays. So much advertising. Way back then, there was little choice, little money, and virtually no advertising.
