I distinctly recall how on more than just one occasion

We got intentionally lost on Mogotes

 

While chewing cocoa leaves and watching hummingbirds

Making make believe, would you believe and sipping cubre libre as ya do

 

That is where we signed our names on a warm smooth rock and drew

A smiley face or two oh’ wow that was something new

 

Yes I distinctly recall how we got lost on Mogotes in Valle de Vinales Cuba

And on reflection now it was such a very silly thing to do, but so much fun

Mmm we had cocoa tree at my grand fathers place....never tried chewing the leaf ... :)
We enjoyed the cocoa and threw the actual thing :p

Never been there. Watching hummingbirds must have been a delight. Not sure about chewing cocoa leaves though. Do they taste bitter? The whole getting lost thingy seems like an adventure, and there is an element of danger about it. It sounds as though it was great fun for brave people. You painted some nice pictures in my mind with your words Neville.

My fear is that it will change once the Castro's are no longer around & it might be ruined... watching humming birds, like fireflies is indeed a delight...cocoa leaves are bitter but are chewed mainly to help combat altitude sickness.. I was first introduced to them when ill in Colombia......Neville
