He replied

As hard as nails

 

Harder she cried

As hard as stone then

Maybe even harder she sighed

 

Harder

She insisted

As hard as a diamond

 

Maybe

They do say diamonds

Are a girl’s best friend……

You mess around like HARDly any other poet, my friend. I caught on right away -- you're playing with various interpretations of "hard" (that is, after my dirty mind crawled out from the gutter where I was thinking "hard" on how you were coming across). It's kinda interesting how this poem led my mind from the idea of something deliciously hard to something sparklingly hard.
