The Company of Angels

The Company of Angels

A Poem by Neville

The Company of Angels

In the company of angels

He stands proud

And yes

Despite those broken wings

Unfolding

She says her prayers

For him out loud

Whilst elsewhere

In the distant distance

White willows weep

Their silver tears

Pon scented and oh so very

Thirsty earth and true

Twas no coincidence

They burn their sage and

Incense sticks

In the cool shadows

Of an ancient yew

At least one full hour

Before the sun bit hardest

A futile attempt maybe

To deny the reaper

Another soul for his

Dark harvest

Bitter salicylate released

And spread upon

So many different levels

Of course upon the wetlands too

Green spears prolific

For there it was on

Bended knees

She said her prayers for him

Out loud

And oh so very very true….

Someone once prayed for me Nev, but they only got an answer machine message saying something about they were fully booked until after the rapture, when hell freezes over.
Beautifully written Sir, but please dont try this at home on my behalf, as it might just change your destination too 😀

Wow Nev this is a lovely construction the feelings are so raw and true in its conveyance. to pray aloud for the one that you speak is such a naked thing requiring a great deal of brave sincerity that it makes my mind blush at the scene...and reveals the weight of the intentions sublimely

Cheers Robert sir... I'm just so bloomin transparent, aint I........ :) N
Such beautiful words, Neville . Seems a view of life in various guises from the past: unwillingly striking for a safe shore in darkness, perhaps unaware that words were whispered within the walls of grace.

Your words surely come from how life and death was seen: 'Of course upon the wetlands too - Green spears prolific.. ' There were times when foreseen tragedies were held at bay with the believed cure of burning herbs and murmured prayers. You quote the available nature of a religion that came from Somewhere yet was, ' .. futile attempt maybe - To deny the reaper - Another soul for his - Dark harvest.. '

Whilst reading your words, i thought of prayer and how it was and is seen. Today, in spite of gentleness still hovering in the background, the ash of burned herbs would be brushed up and thrown in a bin ... whereas prayer can air its thoughts anywhere. Perhaps? Thoughts thrive when i read words like this.

and aren't we all with broken wings in need of prayer .. i love that your speaker's intercessor is a woman .. seems fitting as the gentler gender has a better corner on honesty .. generally speaking of course .. but i may be biased ... i just love women :)))))))))
an intense emotive scene ... graphic images with so little said ... for me .. that is is in the wetlands she bends her knees to pray for him .. says it all .. if one has never stumbled and fallen knees first into a swampy reed filled wetland ... it still is easy to imagine .. the discomfort and sacrifice is pronounced ... and that's all i have to say about that! :}

Mahrnin bro :)))))
If smart, we immerse ourselves in the company of angels, knowing we’ll need not only guidance in life but maybe a sponsor in death...when we’re knocking on heaven’s gate.

I’ll always accept prayers from the well-intended, even when my own faith suffers. Well said, sir.

Likewise...... Cheers R.E
A very accomplished poem Neville but I must admit a bit enigmatic for me. There's an intense mythic feel about it. Angels with broken wings and prayers and offerings by the yew tree. It gives me goosebumps!
I'm going to have to find out how to write this stuff!
Cheers,
Alan

And where do prayers unanswered go? A really interesting poem - lots to ponder - the things for which we pray and hope.
Now, I think your autocorrect left me a present "say's" should be "says" no?

this is beautiful. i read man's attempt at redemption by sacrifice in a fallen world. good vs. evil. only the almighty possesses a way with his unconditional love. there is power and truth in your words ... :)

Thank you sir, you are most kind and of course, much appreciated too... All Good Things, Neville
for me I see two scenes, old ritual for rain to fall, and the soul "whom" was departed from this earth, accompany with Angels now, what "she" this soul feels inside the bliss of eternal peace and can't convey to her people on earth.

I feel mystical sadness through Your words, a prayer for the world today from those ancient ancient times...
