Bedroom Walls & Borrowers

Bedroom Walls & Borrowers

A Poem by Neville
"

They always bring them back, even if they leave them some place else...

"

Bedroom Walls & Borrowers

When gazed upon and slowly so

These old stone bedroom walls

Of ours

Share their clay painted off white

Earth born faces

Which morph and merge then

Gradually dissolve and disappear

Ham stone delinquent every one

Yes indeed

By candle light

The serving wench and w***e

The cider maker

Washer woman

Milk maid and poets several

Plus Beryl Whitaker of course

They all still linger around the tap room

A mere four hundred years

Of DNA

Tis all preserved

Between the floorboards and the

Ceiling of our bedroom

Where lovers love and loved

And fought and so many others died

Yes indeed

Between the reign of James

And our dear Elizabeth

The truth cannot be denied

The Borrowers delight

In taking things and moving them

Both by day and in the dead of night

A really interesting read about your home Neville. It holds so much history and I can imagine those ghosts playing tricks on you. I love the idea of haunted houses as long as I don't live in one of them. Must be great to sit and ponder on all those who have shared your bedroom in days gone bye. If only bedroom walls could speak Neville. What secrets they would yield.

You are living in a mansion of memories of characters the great lady writer left behind. What a wonderfully fascinating surroundings! I hope the place inspires you to pen many many more spectacular writings like this one. my friend .

Nev, you sure live in a haunted house . . . haunted with words and stories, and all who came and went throughout English history. I like way you pull all this together in very beguiling lines. Indeed we are all "borrowers." In the house we once lived in for many years I found an old hidden polaroid photo of a little girl taken many years before in that same house. It was kind of ghostly . . . twasn't the walls . . . but a similar feeling. Great Poem Nev. Congratulations.

wow what a great place to inhabit...
there has to be inspiration living in a writer's house...
and just imagining them when you are the keyboard pouring out poetry...
they move things, those ghosts...but they also move fingers of people over the keys...
love this.
makes me wish i could write a poem in Emily Dickinson's house while looking out her window at the graveyard. Wonder what would come out.
