Looking to See

Looking to See

A Poem by Neville

Looking Just to See

It was while he was looking

Just to see

He smiled the easy smile

He would later

Become known for

You know the one

That made his eyes burn bluer

Than the bluest of blues

For the briefest of moments

He saw them both savored

And wasted

Infinitely etched and indelibly

Traced without so much as a hint

Of definition like the finest of fine

Cobwebs and each

One of them was smiling

It was there draped

Much like silk

Upon his opaque lenses

Such fraught filigrees now clouding

Those fondest of memories complete

Though now much truer than

The very truest true

Yes twas then a cry was sounded

Yes he had a voice indeed

And through it whispered

Let it be recorded now

In ciphers codes and alphabets

In Roman

Rune and ancient hieroglyph

Let us ne’er forget dear friends

To call such moments poetry

Moments, snapshots, poetry in a portrait...and yet...his beauty distorted...
wasted beauty in a person...an innocent ruined by the world as he grew up...
this is really deep and well crafted as it gives us just enough to put our own slant on this.

And it is in motionless wonder the beauty of the truth that was always there...waiting to be seen...🌹🌹🌹

Thank you kindly Thoughts in Time.. stay safe :)
Such an excellently painted portrait Neville. This equates so much with feeling as well as seeing which as you know is always very close to my heart. For that and many more reasons I enjoy this piece.

thank you kindly for shining down upon my scribble.... stay safe,

Your poem reads to me like a reminder that being observant is the core principle for a writer to internalize & feed & grow. Even tho your title is about "seeing", it could also be just as strongly about "feeling" . . . the way you describe what's seen, it's a gateway into what's felt in a big way. Here's hoping you & yours are all doing well & healthy (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This time around the read touched deeper to my mind into how "looking just to see" can turn into gazing through opaque gauze at memory when moments with friends meant so much - - your words struck the reminder that moments must never be wasted. So glad I caught this write again Nev............x

Hey thanks Fay.. sometimes ya just need to take a second peek dont ya.. I know I do.... x
This time on reading, you have posted an image which I don't believe I saw before, nine months ago. That is what I like about your work Neville, that is open to interpretation, and this time you brought me something quite different. Hoping all with you and yours is good. Keep safe and well.

am gonna thank thee too then.... thank you Fay..
I saw the photo you paired with the poem and I wondered if this would be about some world-traipsing. And then I was reminded of a bird that looked just like that that lived in my in-law's living room for many years, and used to scare the bejeebes out of me when I would walk by and he would yell at me.

But, then I read the poem and was reminded of the poet-mind, and how it sees everything as potential and how sometimes that can be a blessing and at others a curse. All about the moment. Perhaps that is what poets truly are--the moment catalogers. And the ones attempting to lend each one we experience the weight it ought to have. Sometimes it makes me light as a feather and others....well, I think you understand. At least your poem tells me so.

Enjoyed this, Neville.

these reads like the beginning of an epic novel pulls you straight in by the chin and set you right on the course of it lines. I have but one feeling from the culmination of these lines in my ear and that is you have reached that point when all things become poetry such an expression in your resonance
