Wow what a pic I have never seen so many sunflowers I grew up near a lot of corn fields and watermelon farms nothing like the taste of freshly stolen watermelons on a hot summer day:) riding down the road balancing my plunder on my handlebars I swear we would inhale those things sitting on the side of the road cutting them with our cub scout knives:) You painted a pretty image in my mind Nev

an amazing, magnificent, majestic flower. at night they turn to the east in anticipation of the sun. their seeds & oil have so many uses. i love them and your tribute ... :)
dear poet... how can this compare to your smile on
a summer's day. I bow to you in the green fields
where bunnies hop and birds sing... I will rest under
yon sleeping willow while the sunflowers long for
showers. A lovely poem from a gifted poet. truly, Pat

As they grow they bow to the earth, their mother, such is the weightiness of those heads. What a great pic and fine words to accompany.
Good morning squire, hope you are well.

Sunflowers are for happy. I can imagine the feeling of utter joy looking out on this view as far as the eye can see. Poppies are just as beautiful in their own way, but they do not lend themselves to joy. Poppies are mournful and signify remembrance. Fields of poppies would make me feel melancholic. I am smiling at what you are seeing and these words you have conveyed to us, with all their vibrant colour. Yes, sunflowers are for joy and I have some growing in my garden..

Very recently on the Oxford borders for the first time I saw fields and fields of pale pink poppies. At first I wasn't sure what they were, but they caused quite a stir round here and people were talking about them and taking photographs. Magnificent they were. Made me look at poppies in a different way. They did raise a smile and I was pleased because the poppy is a very delicate and interesting flower in its own right.
I love how you lead us down the very road, giving us the thoughts & sensations as it happens. It takes you so long to get to the part where we are finally seeing the sunflowers, all that anticipation in the first part of your poem is quite delicious! Love being led along for a good bit (((BUGS))) Fondly, Margie

NUG ya loads BG....
this is beautiful in its imagery, alliteration and in-line rhyme...but underneath...a heavy heart speaks of how we are all leaning in one direction...and i feel this when i think of politics and the despair of so many young people...who feel so cynical about it all.
