Sunflowers

Sunflowers

A Poem by Neville
"

just another golden day & priceless in its own golden way...

"
Sunflowers

Right now on
Both sides of our
Most recently
Manicured road
Green fields are
Smiling
Smiling gold again
The way it always
Happens here...

Okay so it
Happens slow
Slower than a
Casual blink
But faster than
A local
Long drawn yawn
And every year it
Happens the same way...

Far further than
The casual eye
Might ever see then
They wait in their own
Scarce shade
For long shadows
To prime and signal
The first of this years
Precious harvests...

Each heavy
Seed swollen head
Bent and bowing in the
Same direction
Now prepared to yield
After poppies then
Sunflowers might just be
My favourite flower for today
And maybe tomorrow even...

Wow what a pic I have never seen so many sunflowers I grew up near a lot of corn fields and watermelon farms nothing like the taste of freshly stolen watermelons on a hot summer day:) riding down the road balancing my plunder on my handlebars I swear we would inhale those things sitting on the side of the road cutting them with our cub scout knives:) You painted a pretty image in my mind Nev

I like this, no rhyme, and still a beautiful poem. Simple, calm, charming in a way. Great.

dear poet... how can this compare to your smile on
a summer's day. I bow to you in the green fields
where bunnies hop and birds sing... I will rest under
yon sleeping willow while the sunflowers long for
showers. A lovely poem from a gifted poet. truly, Pat

Gee
As they grow they bow to the earth, their mother, such is the weightiness of those heads. What a great pic and fine words to accompany.
Good morning squire, hope you are well.

Sunflowers are for happy. I can imagine the feeling of utter joy looking out on this view as far as the eye can see. Poppies are just as beautiful in their own way, but they do not lend themselves to joy. Poppies are mournful and signify remembrance. Fields of poppies would make me feel melancholic. I am smiling at what you are seeing and these words you have conveyed to us, with all their vibrant colour. Yes, sunflowers are for joy and I have some growing in my garden..

I love how you lead us down the very road, giving us the thoughts & sensations as it happens. It takes you so long to get to the part where we are finally seeing the sunflowers, all that anticipation in the first part of your poem is quite delicious! Love being led along for a good bit (((BUGS))) Fondly, Margie

this is beautiful in its imagery, alliteration and in-line rhyme...but underneath...a heavy heart speaks of how we are all leaning in one direction...and i feel this when i think of politics and the despair of so many young people...who feel so cynical about it all.
