Until Spring

Until Spring

A Poem by Neville

Until Spring

How I wonder

Each and every

Year

How many

Leaves

Might shed a

Tear

As they

Tumble and

Fall to the

Ground

Each one of

Their dances

Unique

A golden

Explosion

A seasonal

Masterpiece

Of sight

Without Sound

No doubt

About it

The very

Prettiest cloud

And

Something

Surely

To consider

Out loud

The briefest of

Wind blown

Murmerations

Individual heroes

Versus flocks

Of willing sheep

Those

That take a dive

And those who

For love do leap

"Masterpiece
Of sight
Without Sound"

those lines struck me, left me with sadness and gentleness, thinking about them deep as the people who weep and groan alone without showing it to others, pretty much like those leaves You my dear Neville have described and expressed them in such a haunting way, and there after comes Your last verse to give proof to my feelings, still as Spring is getting near, hope is clear. Your heart was feeling it deeply when You wrote this.

Rummaging through your archives and this poem struck me as being an appropriate one to revisit as we are in autumn now and the leaves have commenced their parting. Most will take a dive but some will leap from the tree. Autumn is not a happy time for me but spring is and I am ready focusing on rebirth. A poem which can be read on several levels. Beautiful and meaningful work, well worth a revisit Neville.

Your poem floated me on a peaceful breeze of pondering until the last thought-provoking verse, which twists things up a bit and how can I NOT read this & be reminded that those flocks of sheep seemingly rule the world with a sort of mob mentality, diving into a belief system in a seemingly illogical way, something we must get beyond staring at with gaping mouths & figure out how to counter the influence of the flock!?!? I don't know. This is my first poem this morning & only a half cup of coffee . . . could be a weak ponder on a brilliant poem & I apologize (((BUMS))) Fondly, Margie

ahh the "murmerations..." i love that sir! and i think it is super clever to turn your Fall poem into a metaphor at the closing ... and tho you have tied it to love ... one could expand it to a whole lot of life that brings us to those places to stand alone or join the herd ... really enjoyed this emotive and intellectually stimulating poem ... i am surprised that our poets and poetesses here are writing of Fall .. when Spring is the coming thing ... so very cool sasy i!

What a great understanding of the seasonal changes. Of how the individual leaves break free of their beloved tree and are so happy to have danced with it beneath the stars on a midsummer eve.

I love the correlation between nature, seasons, & individualism in this poem. I picture people as falling leaves, dancing to their own winds, blooming & withering as flowers. I love the succinct lines, they really add to the feeling of falling, or leaping as the ending of your poem suggests. Very nice work.

I am glad of your visiting these words my fine literary friend and poet... thank you, N
Nicely stated Neville. Thankfully all the leaves were gone before the current storm Ciara and the next one at the weekend, Dennis. (What a stupid idea to give them people names) That would have looked way too much like faunal genocide and may have resulted in us hearing their screams (that tales of the unexpected episode with that claude greengrass actor still haunts my dreams) Either that or we would hear their screams of joy at having their first rave
Is it just me or does the love ending remind anyone of lemmings 😀

Your personification of leaves dear Nev that might cry as they fall and say goodbye precedes the state of sight without sound with masterful comparison when thinking of people ........ being signs of acceptance they who "for love do leap" are the true heroes. Love this one to bits............... Fay x

This is a Heinekin poem Neville. It reaches the parts that other poems don't reach. I enjoyed very much the imagery and felt sadness for those fallen leaves. Your description of their parting from the tree reminded me of my silver birch in autumn. An explosion of colour caught in a dance before they eventually decay. I saw it all in slow motion and I have a video of mine that I watch throughout the winter months. Poignant. Wind blown murmurations, yes, yes, yes. Lovely work.
