Cathartic is such a good word to describe the places and people who are woven into the old stuff I begin tossing into a bag and shame on me I get half the things out again for sentiment's sake when I remember the fun those ol' pals and me had summers ago when patches really were sewn on for sheer devilry... great read Nev...............x

There may be summat in that approach... maybe I will give it a try.... maybe :)
The things themselves are like talismans of memory. At least that’s been the case for me. I have childhood keepsakes that remind me of a particular day, and though they’ll never serve any useful purpose again, I can’t let them go. Almost feels like discarding the memory.
I like how your poem speaks to a particular person, but it also brings us all in. Feel like I’m part of the gang of intimate friends reading because of the way you address them in a kind of code and also just the voice the poem is written in.
The urgency of your message is keenly felt. Will try to remember tomorrow to live the day full.

I guess everyone has one or two treasures that they just can not contemplate being without.. not that they necessarily ever see the light of day.. but the knowing they are still around is something of an unspoken comfort..... Oh' and by the way.. you are an important member of the gang.... Neville
Tangible objects hold on to all of these fragments of memories that I too have a hard time during "spring cleaning". I love the secrecy of your poem, the wisdom, & the nostalgic vibe. Very nice write.

Live for the day because you don't know what the morrow brings. Sound advice. I burned a candle this evening because I found out this afternoon that two work friends who were nurse teachers had died and far too soon. One of them I was particularly fond of. He had been so supportive. As to the clutter, I struggle because I am far too sentimental to part with stuff given to me by those who have subsequently passed on. I have a little piece of many people in my home. The stuff I clear out is what I have bought and that is easy, but not stuff I have been given. I have a couple of dresses that go back donkeys years I can't part with. They don't even fit, but I can't say goodbye to them because they hold such special memories. I can tell how much your patched levis mean to you and we have spoken about them before. I like where you took me with this write Neville.
