Sea of Obituary

Sea of Obituary

A Poem by Neville

Sea of Obituary

Fragments of obituaries

Cloud my vision

And

Since they come in

Waves

It feels a little bit like

Drowning

This should never be

Not in 2020 surely

It is though darling

And yes

It will be even when

You eventually open

Your baby blue eyes

Look behind

Those death certs honey

There are bodies

Piled outside capitals

And they are everywhere

London and New York

Are not exceptions

Mass graves and fire pits

Are in vogue as summer

Beckons

And welcomes all

Cautious visitors

At least those wearing

Gloves and face masks

To the twenty first century

A strong write Neville which captures the nightmare we find ourselves in. New York and London certainly have taken a battering. Yes a sea of obituaries and those waves of grief rolling in relentlessly. Summer is on hold and I wonder what our new normal will be. How will we greet our friends and loved ones in the future? With a virtual hug from a distance. How cold the future looks and how full our graveyards will be. Sad times.

this is very good Neville.. seems an ageless story.. those who are so focused on an agenda.. for good or for bad.. that they loose sight of the cost to humanity.. death is not proud.. it will consume us all indiscriminately..

and you as well..
This one is grim, and rightly so. In 2020 we thought we were beyond 1918, but reality has brought us up short. Indeed, summer beckons and we don't know what it offers. Those people in Florida who are crowding the beaches may not live to see it.

Good to see you've put pen to paper Neville to give us a very relevant take on this dream world we live in. Being retired and living in the country it does seem unreal. The worst for us is not seeing family including a grandson 1 week old . Just a few months ago this would have seemed crazy. I've found it hard to focus but finally got writing in the last few days. I liked your coming in waves and drowning image. Hope your own situation is bearable.
Take care.

Clouded vision... 20 20...I am thinking now that you have more than one reason for rubbing those eyes now Nev.
Whether local, national or international, it does seem to feel like a surreal history lesson from the pasts pages that we all find ourselves in.
So many faces, smiles and lives behind each of those ever increasing numbers, with no proper send off and barely time to gasp between the constant losses.
I do hope that one day we get to hear the names instead of numbers on a page.

dress up to go out, dress up to stay in.
we can look at our own faces in the mirror, but cannot show them to anyone else.
Yes, the future, full graveyards, empty plates, arenas with rusted closed signs.
Baseball games where not even the entire teams are allowed in the stadium at the same time.
Virtual concerts over the internet...standing ovations never seen or heard.
welcome to the new world order.
