Old One Eye

Old One Eye

A Poem by Neville
"

......... the truest of fisherman's tales around these ere parts

"

Old One Eye

No matter

What the season

Nor the time

Of day it be

And regardless

Of the

Weather even

Just be certain

All of ye

Old One Eye

Will be waiting

For a big toe or a

Pinkie for his tea

Aye be sure

He might be waiting

Where ere the

Parrett eddies

And nigh on

Invisible too he be

Gen green silk-weed

And em

Beds of smoothest

Well-worn gravel

Always facing

Upstream and

A’gen the flow

Old one eye

Lays in waiting

His saw-toothed gob

Wide open

Tho' his tail be

Barely movin

Just waiting for

A fly or minnow

To pass near by

He all of ten

Long summers

Growed he be

By far bigger’un

A farmers forearm

An then some son

He were

The sleekest an

Most longest

Wild brown trout

You ever see’d

No longer fraid

Of heron, crane

Fishin rod or tickle

Old one eye he

Do still wait

They say

In the warmest of

They angry

Perrott shallows ...

I hear tell he lost his eye teaching a boat full of crewmen not to leave their hooks dangling near his fishbits.
I heard tell he feasted on the flesh so much that he no longer eats flies, but waits on bare tootsies being dipped to cool off. Be warned! 😀

In this lake I used to fish frequently was a huge fish that i would always find in this same eddy... I have tried every bait and technique I could muster but I never got him for two years I have tried to catch him he would literally just stare at me at times and flitter away taking no notice of my bait he must of been related to one eye:/

This be one of those fisherman's yarns heard in the pubs along by the Perrett.and at its mouth. Old one eye and every time he gets a mention, he grows a inch in size. That makes him the biggest potential catch the Perrett has ever known. You know I can't help thinking how fine he would look on a dinner plate. But you know I don't think he:d fit in my oven, so it's best for him to remain in his natural environment where he will grow for evamore :) Good Sunday morning Neville.
