Maybe Old but Not Daft

Maybe Old but Not Daft

A Poem by Neville

Maybe Old but Not Daft

He knew what

Her game was

He had seen it all before

The scanty two piece

The selfie, the pursing of lips

And the pouting

But under the circumstances

For him, trying to look interested

Was far easier said than done

After all, he was

An old man of the sea

And rarely spoke of nothing but

Harbours, of tides

Of jetties, the moon

And of marina’s and quays

But show him

A measure of sailcloth,

A rope makers awl, or an anchor

Then he be nobody’s fool, but a

Bloomin good fisher, a sailor, a husband

A father and friend through n through ..

The she here sounds as though she was certainly fishing for something which she was unlikely to hook. This old guy's heart is tied up with the sea. His veins course salty water and I can see him now, skin tanned, weathered by the elements. And his eye would become far more interested in all things marine than this lip licking, pouting, half naked dame. This is the sort of guy who would wish for a sea grave eventually.

To he who had seen it before her "game" of seduction would be sure to fail for this tale of what makes an old sea dog could not be plainer. The picture you pen Nev shows his interest lies in a worthwhile life and no scanty-clad lass with pounty lips could drag that ol-man of the sea from being just as your final stanza describes - -- an inspirational read
