Summer's End

Summer's End

A Poem by Neville
"

and now for summat much more serious

"

Summer’s End

My walks in the park are now laboured

The dapples, more darker now too

~~

There is a chill in the air, I once savoured

~~

Saying goodbye to summer as late as it is

Is simply no fun without you

dear Neville... the Lazy Susans are loosing Petals and the
Forgetmenots are losing their memory. The Squirrels are
tired of hiding nuts for the Winter; instead they are scurrying around
trying to steal Bird Seed, especially the Sunflower seeds.
The Cows are tired of being Milked and so they hide in the Cornfields.
Romance is no longer a dance, but an exhausting Tango for hours
on end. Time for Pumpkins and Apple Pie. truly, Pat

The end of summer is a poignant time, for it is also the beginning of fall, a season that makes us think of time passing and the losses that attend that passage. Loss permeates this offering, as the speaker talks of walks becoming more labored, the darker dapples and the chill in the air. The last lines are apparently addressed to someone once close, but now, for whatever reason, no longer in the picture. Physical life is really but a succession of changes, and though we know that rationally, it does not prevent the pain that inevitably comes with loss.

This time of year my flowering baskets are beginning to go past their best and the evenings are drawing in. This tells me that autumn is on its way. If you are grieving the loss of loved ones and have health issues, then you would feel that with an added punch. I always find autumn bittersweet. The colours are stupendous, but the falling leaves, deathly.

August is always the beginning of the end, bittersweet summer days. Especially whilst longing for or missing someone
