Waving at Dolphins

Waving at Dolphins

A Poem by Neville

Waving at Dolphins

On sunny days

yes ..

such as these

West Bay

fishing boats Turandot,

Chris-d-Anne, Anatolia and Little Gem

Each curtsy

bob and bow and sway

on tame and tireless harbour waves

Then

dance a little private waltz

determined ..

As those

timeless silver lunar rays

to tell a tale of children chasing dolphins

This lovely poem has a nostalgic feel about it. Almost as though childhood memories are resurrected when visiting. Harbours are a hive of activity. So much going on. Here you have fishing boats dancing at high tide. They do just that bowing, bobbing and curtsying. The harbour is a great place for kids. Ours used to go crabbing. Going back over generations, a place families have gone. There are some great images here and it's not that long ago that the Western Lady here in Brixham delighted everyone by showing them a pod of dolphins chasing each other in the bay. If you get to see that, you are fortunate indeed.

I can imagine the beauty of swaying boats in the bay water and the dancing dolphins around. The surreal picture has the ability to calm the mind.... Very nice read

.... then I shall thank you again, just becuz :)
Love your poem which brings alive the idea of being among sea creatures, presenting these encounters as a curtsy & a dance, I can imagine boats bobbing out there, waving at dolphins. Great imagery put to imaginative words! (((BOBS))) Fondly, Margie

Welcome....... :)
Dolphins are so smart and they just love to entertain us....

why do people kill them? It is unbelievable that that happens....
some have such a disregard for human life...and dolphins are as smart if not smarter than humans...and are maybe more like us than we are.

Such a delight to read is this special tribute to West Bay and its dancing small boats . - - the mention of dolphins takes me back to when a dolphin called Donald found fame in Mount's Bay as he piloted boats into harbour quite regularly - - that thrill fell to me one day when out sailing the bay on a friend's yacht and would you believe it - Donald showed up alongside, looked into my eyes and allowed me to stroke him all the way home to Penzance - - a never-to-be-forgotten experience - so pleased I could share it after reading your very relatable finalé dear Nev.
