En Route From A to B

 

 

On average, the entire journey

would maybe take

the best part of four whole days

…

Yes, it was a long way indeed

From Amsterdam to

Bergen-Belsen back in the day

…

And get this, there was never

more than standing room in any

case … and then ..

…

Only if you were very, very lucky

No toilet stops,

no buffet car or restaurants ..

…

Just a bucket for each cattle truck

if you were lucky ..

One way tickets only, no voids ..

…

Returns and certainly no refunds

were allowed

Not a single bloody one ..

…

Yet strange as it may now seem

whole families might often be

accommodated thus, regardless ..

…

Though, the b******s as was, 

could not cope and so lost 

countless wretched souls in that way ..

…

While exact numbers may yet vary

it is now known almost a million

innocents passed en-route from A to B ..

This is a vitally important thing for us to understand Neville. In ww2 it was X that did that to Y. In other circumstances we could ourselves by either X or Y. History holds the answers and we need to study it hard.
A very thought provoking write Neville and always worth reminding us.

thank you Alan .. I quite agree .. they now reckon over twelve million wretched and predominantly innocent souls perished in the holocaust and the nazi attempt to wipe out so many ruthlessly and viciously persecuted groups .. many tend to think only of the Jews .. there were many others too ..

We are definitely the only species on the planet that is power hungry and attacks and kills our own kind for nothing more than that.

That such evil and terror could be written in such a tongue in cheek way (ironic?) - yet attack the mind and sob the heart is due to your fine writing.

To visit any such places leaves a mark that never, never fades.

I visited Auschwitz Birkenau while driving through Poland several years ago .. the legend of birds never singing there is true .. Sometimes, I am ashamed of my own species .. Ta for signing in, but am left wondering whether I have by chance or design been mildly chastised. Nevertheless, I aim to thank you regardless.
