Then he chewed upon

Tansy, samphire and dried

peppermint

So she would be sure to dream

He did everything he could, to his last drop of energy, hope and determination. unfortunately no matter what, unrequited love and separation do hurt and so much. not time what can heal, but our willing during that time to be healed.
