A Very Personal Holocaust

On leaving the station all the records

suggest

She was wearing her Paisley patterned

Sunday best dress ..

Not to mention the very fine shawl

embroidered in gold

by an old aunt, with a silver bradawl ..

But let’s not pretend, that was a whole

life time ago ..

Take my word, how things change in

the blink of an eye

For later that day, those same records

Proposed

Miss Lonneke Cohen was to lose all she

then owned ..

Her hair and those ribbons and the gold

from her teeth ..

Plus a coat and her red leather boots

were removed by a thief

Then swiftly replaced with a yellow star

shaped cotton motif ..

Not to mention that six figure tattoo ..

Yes, the one the

now, Ms. Lonneke Wahl still wears to

this day …

On her forearm, beneath the long sleeves

of her blouse

She keeps hidden away .. and as far as

is known ……………………… She is now the

only surviving family member

Of the late Marsha and Abraham Cohen …

Just mind blowing. Just reading this sends shivers down my spine at the evil that lurks in our species. Ms Lonneke Wahl, her suffering so immense. It is hard to contemplate living with the losses she has had to endure. I wonder if she has ever known peace.

Thank you Neville. The world must never forget the atrocities of the past, especially those done to the Jewish people. We are doomed to repeat these horrors of inhumanity if we forget our part in them. Here in this part of the world there are efforts to rewrite history and white wash it. I cringe to think the effects that will have on our future generations. Every day I wake up I can easy find in the news someone being attacked or abused because of the color of their skin, gender, or sexual preference. We are bursting at the seams with hate toward one another. And we are doomed to repeat history upon ourselves.

Hello Carlos, thank you for considering these words .. another much appreciated visit .. and.. read more
With destruction in the millions, it can be difficult to see that every one of them was a complete life, with family, friends and loved ones, along with all the hopes for their future and dreams, destroyed for something that is now only spoken of in hushed tones of regret, like an apology should suffice, but never could.
These individual tales should be heard so that the world never forgets the worst of human nature and all the innocent lives ended for a reason we still can't find or understand.
Nice one sir.
