It’s the knowing what once was

that really hurts the most, isn’t it darling ..

Spent beauty sucks don’t you think

 

No more long hair maybe

but not a single bald patch anywhere ..

Same old blue jeans though ..

dear Neville.... now at age 77... my husband Roger loves his Wrangler soft Blue Jeans and Wrangler Cowboy Shirts with Pearl Snap Buttons and a pocket on each side. He also wears Cowboy Boots and his blond graying Hair is longer than a Moon beam... So even though He takes Dialysis for four years now... He is quite the Stylish Wild West Star... Yes, Roger is a Veteran... and has survived PTSD and is doing well as can be expected. He is well educated with a sense of Humor... and very Kind to everyone.
I met him in 1987 at a Country Western Dance. When I asked him to dance, He replied... "Not unless they Play, "Because of you, god made Oklahoma"... So I had to ask the Band to Play that Song. tenderly, Pat

Ahh, this is so very wonderful! It's short, succinct and completely relatable. This ranks among my favorites of your many writes. Maybe it's because I'm getting so old that I love to reminisce. I had some long hair back in the seventies. But none of my jeans survived and neither did the hair. It's sad too because a girl named Becky did a cross-stitch of a farmer and his wife (like American Gothic, the painting) on my favorite jeans. It was a good foot high work of art on the bottom of one leg. I hadn't thought of those jeans in years. Thanks for reminding me of a beautiful time in my life. Highest marks on this gem of a poem!
