Even Sadder than That Even

 

It fell

more silent than the

snow     

was falling

and lighter than light

even ..

Not to mention sadder

than the

sound and the sight

of those

war ravaged orphan

children

playing in the rubble

and the dust

of some recently

discarded village ..

So now listen voyeur

heed

and take note ..

For there beside those

dead nurses

and doctors, the sound

and the smell

of your canvass burning

only moments

 

after being

so delightfully brushed

is a whole

brave new world away ..

We look on from afar with horror at the suffering. The death and destruction is abhorrent. It's hard to believe this is happening in Europe and if it isn't stopped, the aggressor will be trying his luck at other countries on his border. The Ukrainians are fighting for western democracy. They need our help and there should be no shortage of it, whilst trying to contain the situation. I am in awe at their resilience in fighting for what they truly believe in. Your poem Neville, stirs up many emotions and casts a black shadow.

I like the use of 'voyeur' here, Neville....it's the only description we can use for ourselves as we watch the ravaging of Ukraine from afar, helplessly. It's extremely sad to watch but infuriatingly so when many world leaders are mostly just sitting on their hands and doing nothing worthwhile to end the conflict. As always, it's the innocents that suffer and I pray the people of Ukraine see a victory they most thoroughly deserve. 💛
