Upon the Drift of Wimbleball Lake

Upon the Drift of Wimbleball Lake

A Poem by Neville
"

I doubt whether anyone will have heard of her .. but she's somewhere not too far away, even as I type ..

"

Upon the Drift of Wimbleball Lake

Looking much like some

misshapen shard of silver blue glass

on a warm summers day

and from a distance, with no visible

signs of a ripple or wave

to give her away, nor to hint at the

length or the depth of her ..

Up close tho’ she lures like a mistress

and acts a little depraved

Just the way that you want her to ..

Yet here and there, where the blossom

drifts and banks of it pile high ..

That is where, we may once have made

love, neath a near cloudless sky ..

There on the drift of Wimbleball Lake

that jewel of a place, pinned

to the heart of our very own rural Exmoor ..

Haven't heard of Wimblehall, but it sounds like where wobbles go for a quick dip.
I have heard and been to windermere though, where u spent a summer at a writers retreat I'm connection with a Plath/Hughes modernisation that never saw the light of day, despite it being a legal wrangle between two groups of lawyers who were fighting against each other despite their rights both being held by the same company! Pfft!
Anyhoo, I digressed and where was I?
Sounds idyllic Nev and I must say when I was sauntering around windermere, I felt a cooling, calming presence with each mist caught on the breeze snd fanning calmness within me.
I was never a fan of the water until that summer snd now I recall it so fondly, despite the group all being strangers before it started.
I wonder what wotsername is doing now....probably the same as me and wondering what was my name, whenever that fleeting glimpse of summer returns to her thoughts.
How very dare she forgetify me! 😃

Oh and I meant Wombles, not wobbles! Damn predunctive toast, I mean predictive text!
there you go again ... telling your truth! DAMN YOU NEVILLE! HA!
what a truly beautiful scene you have so masterfully painted thru words!

water has attracted mankind from the beginning i suppose.
some only touched their toes thru fear of the unknown
others, not unlike myself, just jumped right in!
without regard for how deep it is or how nipplely cold it might be
pretending to be brave depending on ability to dog paddle or just float!
i of course enjoyed the read!

it always a pleasure to read your scribble my friend!
A delightful poem, in praise of the wonders of nature (including the female form) -- I had never heard of Wimbleball Lake, but I now know it is a real place! Your words took me right there, Neville. When I saw you were with a lady-friend I averted my eyes - honest! Very nicely penned, my friend!

Hi Neville,
Boy oh boy there is so much to be said about your enchanting poem....
The lake could be a metaphor for oh, so many precious ~ wondrous things..
The use of nature plays well with your thoughts..
I was captured immediately by your first line and moves smoothly along it til the end...
It is such a lovely gentle piece Neville,

me too ((😊😊............ Neville ))
One of your expertly written encounters with nature that become clear enough to feel the amount of rippleless silence as lake basks in memory when two lay down beside Exmoor's Wimbleball Lake - -what a gem of a read dear Neville.
