Petite Mort #2

 

She would invariably

smile

to herself

whenever recalling

those

exquisite

little

deaths of hers

she so often enjoyed

when they

were an item ..

And then, sometime

later

they would

inevitably

laugh till they cried

at the

meaning behind

the French

la petite mort ..

Since he

was inclined to call

them her sigh naps

and then

she near died again

safe in his arms ..

I've never heard of that saying before, but from my limited French... before I searched the saying online, "petite Mort" literally meant small death, and the online definition said a brief loss. From this meaning, it seems as if this poem has the message that life is full of ups and downs. The girl in this poem, seems to experience alot of downs, her brief losses in life are her downs and when she experiences them, she sighs and relies on someone she can trust to help her through this roller coaster to a time when she feels better. Interesting poem indeed!

it can indeed .. and yes there is .. I think I posted it here but maybe years ago .. the original, or first version tho' quite different is published in one of my poetry anthologies .. thank you for taking such an interest my new found literary friend :)
