A Few More Things Remembered

A Poem by Neville

A Few More Things Remembered

I doubt I shall ever forget how

she always

closed her eyes in the shower

Yet kept them

Both wide open in the rain ..

But am sure

I will always remember and

treasure

each one of those flowers she

embroidered

and sewed onto the patches

she pinned

to the knees of my torn 501’s

Which by the way

were even more faded than

the lilac and the

cream one’s on my mothers

old pinafore ..

I also remember how funny

it seemed,

they both smelled so similar

and how I then

thought, if love had a smell,

it would smell of

my lady, fresh from her shower

and small cotton flowers

Nothing like love to stir up our emotions, past, present or even maybe it will find us once again, so beautifully articulated friend Neville, sincere, sweet and so sentimentally endearing..

Dear Neville, you honour two very much loved women in this poem of touching and observant memories. You also reminded me of my Nan who taught me embroidery and how much enjoyment I got from that years ago. I have kept my box of many coloured silk threads. We can often be reminded of people by our sense of smell. So evocative. Soaps, perfumes, cooking can transfer us so easily to a different time, a different place. What a fabulous idea that love can have its own special fragrance. A lovely poem.

you sir have the most remarkable way of making the bawdry ever so lyrical. It is a talent, one that had you lived 300 years ago would either have landed you in the company of the illustrious greats, or reading gaol.
