From Inside This Box of Broken Mirrors

I really don’t like who I am

or what I have become

But when living in a box

of broken mirrors, like this

can you really blame me ..

Or is it, by chance down

to the circumstances we find

ourself in at the time ..

Those, which are far beyond

the locus of our own control ..

So on reflection, pray tell me,

when will our

seven year sentence be done ..

I so need to know, for the sake

of the both of us ..

Seven year of bad luck. A great topic for a poem. In my lifetime. I had a few runs of bad luck. Broken glass or not. Sometimes it seem, we cannot win Neville. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Indeed, relationships can be fun. The speaker feels like the occupant of a box of broken mirrors and feels bad about it. It appears as though he committed some no-no seven years ago, and now the partner still holds it against him. He attributes the problem to circumstances beyond his control. I think it's time for the neighborhood arbitrator to get involved.

its meant to be a poem John, not a confessional and anyway, I blame the Romans .. Nevilleread more
Blame the Romans for the mumbo jumbo about broken mirrors and seven years bad luck. Yes, it originated from them. A scientific mind would give no credence to such thoughts. Only those plagued by superstition would go there. On the other hand it is quite possible to look into a mirror and not like the reflection staring back at us. I would imagine that to be quite common at times. Although this is written in the first person I feel it is more likely to be about one of your clients. If it is about you, you might well need some counselling yerself and my rates are very reasonable :)

Wrap up warm Neville it’s perishing out there :)
