I wonder when the last time I felt still calm, safe and free? When your whole world was your back yard, before starting little school, which felt like big school and certainly before realising we were expected to go every day, until we were 16, at least!!!
I thought I'd been sent to naughty kid prison and to make matters worse, our school faced a playground, with swings and seesaws and concrete everywhere... Not like these bouncy surfaces they have these days. Bah! They don't make kids like they used to, where you were left to figure it out yourself, and I did! I mean, eventually, that using the cast iron parallel bars and expecting not to need immediate surgery when some part of you crashed to the Concrete, made me realise I should stop trying to beat gravity, by about the 17th unsuccessful attempt.
And if my parents were here today, I'd want to ask them why they thought it would knock some sense into me, when it was obvious to even littler me it was doing the exact opposite!
But a lovely piece to be reading on a lazy Sunday morn, where there is even a hint of that big yellow sky fireball putting in an appearance.
Happy chocolate day mate. 😊

The sumner of love Neville, was 1967. San Francisco, the hippies and flower power. I can hear Scott Mackenzie singing:) A time when I felt safe, calm and loved in the arms of caring parents and little siblings. Your lines are uplifting on a rainy morning. They are also filled with reassuring imagery. If as an adult you can feel calm, safe, loved and free, I would say you have struck gold. I had a pretty golden Saturday with lots of family. I hope your Easter has been as enjoyable as mine. Very nice poem. Has the feel good factor about it:)

!967. Was a few days in the past Nevil. I liked the flow of thoughts leading to the good ending. Good to find a safe harbor after a long journey. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Ah, the summer of 67. I am not sure love was at the forefront of my thoughts but it was getting there. This entire poem was soothing and comforting. A nice one to read on a hectic Friday afternoon.

In my opinion there is nothing more safe than boundless love, it gives one a sense bliss and security; it also embraces calm as one knows the feeling of peace….the feeling of freedom is important to one’s psyche…. To have the feeling of flying like a bird…..this is an awesome write and looking back in a sweet romance in the summer of ‘67…when we were more carefree and justifying so……
Best, B
