how much of your soul

exactly

did you leave for your

muse to

feast upon and devour ..

 

2) For a Lover Once Loved

 

How much of yourself

exactly

did you choose to hold back

while I tried

to drown myself in you ..

 

3) For a Cause Once Fought

 

How much time do we have

exactly

for the two of us to devote

to a cause

we know, to be already lost ..

I think every writer can identify with #1. I had previously thought of the muse as a moody lover. Now I know she's been a cannibal all along. #2 is the basis for innumerable country music songs.#3 could double for #2, but could also serve as pr for divorce court.
