Still Some Way to Go

this is not a love poem .. its an apology

Still Some Way to Go

 

Without ever having known her

all his poetry

would have been such a waste

of well worded time

But then between you and me,

whoever

would likely, have guessed ..

He loved her so much

but was too scared to touch

and so he left her feeling

cheated, empty, broken, defeated

a mere shadow

of her former self, a hollow husk

a poem, uncompleted

I do see this write as a love poem Neville. It’s a confessional. To leave someone feeling cheated, empty, broken, defeated, a mere shadow of herself …..well that takes quite a bit of doing. Can something be fixed after such destruction. Who knows my friend. As you say. a poem not apparently completed.

I would add that this is beautifully penned. I would also add,you must be writing about your muse here
and all those uncompleted poems waiting for you.

I love this poem for the factual depiction of the sheer selfishness and cowardice of some men out there who profess to love another and yet go on to hurt them in the worst possible way. This certainly did not read like love because who leaves someone they profess to love as cheated, empty, broken, defeated, a mere shadow of her former self? Indeed, this wasn't love. Beautifully written Neville. A love poem with a difference!
