Recollecting Unusual Positions

Recollecting Unusual Positions

A Poem by Neville

Recollecting Unusual Positions

Simultaneously

looking down at her back

through the hull

of a glass bottomed boat

and up at the soles

of her feet and her skirts

from where he lay

in the gutter of some god

  forsaken city or other ..

Anyone watching

would have thought it was

magic, or witchcraft

or something entirely not

  of this earth ..

And they would have been

right of course,

since he was in the process

of dying alone

in that gutter, with just a few

fading photographs

and a memory or two of her ..

I can't help but think of Oscar Wilde: “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars...”

Memories... threw out the photographs, myself, though I held onto them longer than I's care to admit...

Those cities are all the same, and I know that gutter... anyways, cheers

Thanks John .. You just made the blood rush to my head sir .. Neville
This makes me think of a soldier who was on some covert mission. A photograph and a couple memories of her. That is what prompted me to think this way but my mind often works differently than others. The dying alone is sad and heartbreaking.

My guess is this is about some poor desolate homeless person but for some reason the image above stuck and pulled at my heartstrings.

Unfortunately this happens more than we would like to think it does.

ephemeral euphoria in the last minutes must be a blessing in disguise, enjoyed the image here, sad but highly emotional rending - thanks for the post -carl

thank you kind sir for the visit & for your thoughts on the matter .. Neville
the mind recalls strange images when we die , or so it seems ...
i have known people reaching out and seeing people that i was sure were not in the room ...
who knows for certain ?
Dying alone is a terrible concept and yet it is all too familiar these days in the streets of our cities ..
