For anyone out there who doesn't already know .. but may be interested, Dorset is a small county in England much of it on the coast & known for its beauty, but also rough seas .. tis steeped in folklore .. The sirens of Greek mythology are dangerous but alluring creatures said to call to sailors and fishermen who are compelled to find the source of their song and are then lured onto rocks and their doom .. A buoy is a floating marker out at sea that marks a spot .. often a dangerous spot, or where crab and lobster pots have been set .. Gert lush is a local west country term that means something is very good or lovely ..

Re your authors note Nev, I've heard same said of those Dorset maidens, luring with their allure and wotnot.
And for a county at the opposite end of my world, I have been reading twice in recent week(s) of their cliffs crumbling in quite an untoward fashion too, so if you are on the beach, might want to wear a hard hat too.
The Dorset buoys makes much more sense now. I thought it might have been a local variation of West Side story.
Must go, I think I hear one of those sirens and well, there's no point in fighting it, is there? 😊
blimey, Nev. Ok, I take care of Dorset's shores, stay mindful of poaching a lobster pot, no matter how hungry I may be ... but the Lasses! Heaven's forbid. A dog's got to hunt, and having snouted the area in question, as I do recall the vixens were particularly attractive. So unless daddy's toting a shot gun ... :)
