Non Parallel Lines

I don’t need

to like

or want you

just because

you think

you love me ..

After all,

I am just one

more

would be

poet passing

through ..

And you are

not exactly

empty handed

are you

darling ..

Drawing hard,

deep

and slow

upon your cork

tipped

French cigarette

like that ..

Are we not

just running

on empty

somewhere

along these

pseudo

non parallel

lines ..

Where it only

just occurred

to me

I don’t need

to like,

or to love

This poem is honest, direct and conveys emotion well. It is always much easier to be travelling in the same direction as others. The lines here speak to me of conflict. Running on empty is a non starter, but it is the cigarettes I was drawn too. Filthy habit. You know I just remembered Blondie and Parallel lines. Now she was one I admired a lot and still do. Busy day for me. Hope your week gets off to a good start Neville. Your poetry certainly has:)

Thank you for kickstarting my week Chris and so positively .. You also made me think back and I also recall Blondies Parallel Lines being bought for me by a very dear friend Alison who is sadly no longer with us .. but yet still loved as much as she is missed ..
