Peck Drop and Run

Peck Drop and Run

A Poem by Neville
"

in the great skein of things, it aint so bad ..

"

Peck Drop and Run

I note

the geese

are at it again ..

They

really must

hate me

and my dog ..

Every

single

year since

I don’t know

when,

they arrive

in droves ..

Around mid

September,

then its

every man

for himself ..

As they

proceed to

deliberately

bomb,

our bloody

back yard

with

damsons,

wild bullace

and an

assortment

of plums ..

But as long

as the

greenhouse

survives

the next

onslaught,

or blitzkrieg ..

I shall

not bother

to buy a fresh

wildfowling

gun but duck,

keep my

head down

and just

run for cover

when

the next

flight passes

us by ..

Peck drop

and run may

well sound

like a kids

game to some ..

But around

these

here parts,

we take it

dead serious ..

Haha! best ensure not to run afoul of the fowl, eh?

The geese in my part of the world are notorious - teeth on the tongue, even. That said, I've found Canadians take a degree of pride in the bird, despite their notoriety.

As for the writing here, I have to say I'm pretty fond of the blitzkrieg reference and imagine there's a point of U.K. national pride in there somewhere. It's a candid write, for sure, and I find myself admiring the honesty that it conveys.

Pleasure reading, thanks for sharing.

You are so welcome. Keep up the great writing!!
I shouldn’t laugh but I just did. The geese crap all over our boat. Not only that, I hear them laughing. One of the joys of living near water Neville:) You gain much and then suffer the irritations. Like seagulls, who can be an utter menace. Have a good day.
