The True Nature of Loss

The True Nature of Loss

A Poem by Neville

The True Nature of Loss

As she entered the room,

I suddenly

remembered the scent

and the taste

and the feel of orchards

and harbours

and sixteen other sacred

places that

I visited during my youth ..

And although

I never quite forgot them

I no longer

think of them each day or

mourn their

existential passing, such is

   the nature of loss ..

Loss is a scar that takes time to heal but never quite does or ever does. It hangs waiting attention come dawn and dusk and in between. It hurts.

Your words hurt, as you must do to understand how..

'As she entered the room,
I suddenly
remembered the scent
and the taste
and the feel of orchards
and harbours
and sixteen other sacred
places that.. '

Beautifully sad.

I find it funny how a scent can remind me within seconds of a place or person from my past. I think there are different kinds of loss, but they all hurt no matter what they are.

haha, no way. :)
All losses are felt deeply at the beginning, but then can soften with time. The scents, taste and touch are always remembered though. They aren’t forgotten with the fading of memories. This poem though, is very much of the present time I feel and it is most poignant. Have a good day Neville.

That is sad for you Neville. Sorry about that.
I've lost family members to death, lost lovers to life, and have grown old enough to recognize I'm not young anymore. This one spoke to me

I guess loss, and mourning loss, has a life span like everything else.
...maybe "As she entered the room" signifies hope. I hope so.
