That Time of Year Again

That Time of Year Again

A Poem by Neville

That Time of Year Again

Around this time of year

every year that is ..

We see them in pairs,

in trees and in hedgerows ..

We see them

in meadows, in forests

on marshland and fields ..

We see them

dancing and making love,

on the wing ..

Then toying with thermals

like arial voyeurs,

and watching from some

proverbial wire ..

Yes, always in pairs though ..

They have to be swifts, I think. Your poem gave me some beautiful imagery of birds in flight over countryside and woodland. I love the movement this poem offers of sky visuals. Birds in pairs, and yet the red kites I have seen here recently fly quite alone. The last memory I have of our felled cypress was a red kite perched on its dying limbs.
