Wilden Free

Wilden Free

A Poem by Neville

Wilden Free

I don’t like seeing

animals

in cages or in zoos ..

I don’t like

plants in troughs,

   or in pots ..

They all belong in

jungles,

   or deserts surely ..

Or maybe

some other wilden

natural

habitat, free to roam

and bloom

  somewhere like us ..

On our way to

   getting hopelessly lost ..

I would like to be associated with the words of the above writer. Parts of which I am certainly guilty of. In my defence I will say that all my animals are my friends and companions. My dogs think they have died and gone to heaven since we moved up here. And my plants seem to relish in looking good and they are as far as I can all local. I still am in awe of your wit however and the underlying points you make so consistantly.

Sure, I see men roaming for big trees in jungle. Let them keep portraits of animals instead of animals in zoos

I second the motion, N. Zoos and pet stores strike me as sad places.

Neville,
When we visit the jungle, our hobnails crunch on whole habitats important to only those who lie under our size 12s, and they are leveled. We pass through, unaware of the clumsy bull we are in Nature's China Shop, so we grab what we like, and confine it in some small space in the name of "taming the chaos." The entire planet is better off where we cannot reach.

I've seen hawks in cages and they surely didn't look like hawks. I mean they had all the spectacular physical features but the spirit seemed lacking. They sat stooped and dull eyed. Indeed, the same must go for us. The roles and rituals of life place much limitations on our true potential. We should be free to roam, free to bloom and get lost to find ourselves. Beautifully stated, dear Neville.
