Sound words

heard

though barely

whispered ..

Quiet gently

broken

by a longing

scarcely

even touched ..

Then she

sighed and so

deeply ..

I thought that

maybe

she was dying ..

But she

only gasped

and urged me

continue,

for the sake of

both of us ..

Then hushed,

quite unselfishly ..

i am becoming more and more aware of late the joy of silence. i live alone and most of my day is filled with it. yet i do not feel lonely.
silence when another is in your presence can also be powerful. that no words are needed is a testament to the deep connection you have with the other person.
the ending of this poem gave me a lot to think about. my mother died last spring and she passed believing i was alright. i was not. and that is really the only regret i have.
