Don’t you think it’s funny

how we each cling

   

to certain familiar things ..

The sweet scent

of old saw mills in forests

and the subtle hit

of wildflower and cottage

gardens on the way

 

  to nowhere in particular ..

Except for maybe,

a surprise roadside picnic

with the folks

and grandparents on those

amazing carefree

and always sunny Sunday

afternoons that we

once used to love so much

before the return

   journey homeward bound

     in Dads old green van ..

Not to mention

the sound of all those clear

freshwater rivers

where the grayling could be

found and spawned,

year after year and the crazy

idea every single thing

   

would sooner or later be perfect ..

Ah, that takes me back Nev, too when roads were roads and having a picnic at the side of them wouldn't include police and new helicopters hovering and front page headlines, as your Dad was carted off to the funny farm pleading he only fancied a cuppa!
And yes, dontcha just love those cottage gardens and their scents, that you only see now if your lucky, unless it's on the front of a giant box of chocs for your dear old ma. Do thry still make those boxes like they hold a ten thousand piece jigsaw, but when you open them they're even better than that. (Pass the coffee swirl please)
And sigh...yes... ahm still waiting for things to work out just perfect, although there was an hour in 1985 that got pretty close! 😃

Apologies for late response Loz have been otherwise tied up & no sooner had I broke free then work got to me big time .. Any old how, it's still perishing here so I bet its even chillier in the land of prickly heather .. Also big thanks for reminding me of cottage gardens and me old Dad .. Sadly I've only got the gardens and your kind review to remind me of him and his antics when we were kids .. Which further reminds me, I had one of them moments way back too .. It's been okay but snow due again end of week with the usual temperature plummet.

Yes, I remember those Golden times too--family camping trips, waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs* cooking on the campfire--when stories had happy endings :)
