The Weight of Enlightenment

The Weight of Enlightenment

A Poem by Neville

The Weight of Enlightenment

I am almost too ashamed

to admit that

it took me years to realise,

the warmest

glow comes from forgiving

   and from giving ..

Still, they think they stand

on firmer and on

higher ground today than we

ever did and still do ..

Oh’ my word, how wrong are

each of those fools ..

As an older adult male I have to admit these words ring true. It's taken me years to finally realize what you've so wisely stated in these words:

"the warmest glow comes from forgiving
and from giving .."

I wish I could have been more wise to these words when I was a teenager. CLE

Cheers Thomas 😎👍
This poem glows with hard-earned wisdom. The quiet shame of delayed realization, followed by the clarity of what truly matters--giving and forgiving. That final line is a truth bomb wrapped in restraint. Beautifully done, Neville.

........... you just helped to make my day😎💛👍
Forgiveness is key, just so long as you never forget whatever it was I was talking about.
Now why did come in here? I'll have a coffee and try to remember... why is there a cup of coffee in the microwave again? Dagnabbit!

I still believe forgiving is overrated. Maybe just cause I am a little younger. Forgetting might be a better superpower for me.
Great as always sir

It was not until I grew old and late in life that I truly learned this. Forgiving is for oneself as is giving. They free me from anger and stinginess a cancer of the soul. They allow me to be happy not mad. Yet I watch most movies that are focused on revenge and violence and an economy that encourages greed and coveting what one does not have. A lovely write Neville
