Madagascan Girls

Madagascan Girls

A Poem by Neville

Madagascan Girls

No, they are not crazy,

they’re just

the local Madagascan

party, beach

and market girls

who coincidentally all

dance like that ..

Take note how they also

paint their

pretty faces both white

and yellow

with matt buttercups

and daisies

from all of the naturally

occurring

coloured clays to keep

the harshest

of the sun rays at bay ..

Although,

much more importantly,

to help maintain

their unique anonymity ..

This piece has such a warm, curious energy. It feels like someone observing with genuine interest and affection. The rhythm is casual but thoughtful, and the little details like the painted faces and natural clays makes the poem stand out. It shifts from playful to something deeper with that last line about anonymity. It’s light and lyrical, but also quietly respectful. There's beauty in how simply it's told. You know, simple things are the best of all. No deep meanings or difficult words, just simplicity. This poem felt a bit too real to me... that's just my opinion. Loved it though.
