Remarking on A Flight of Fancy

This is so much more

than just fun,

or a flight of fancy, she said ..

Can you not

feel it in those

pretty wings of yours ..

Although I learnt

a long time ago,

it’s okay to look back ..

I dare not go

anywhere

near them, these days ..

It’s all in the way

we plummet and fall

from the sky, you see ..

Much like Icarus burned,

so maybe we all

should have just listened more ..

It's not the falling that kills you Nev, its the sudden decelerating to zero that does that. Its like saying you have a fear of flying but in reality its the fear of crashing. But at least you have a flotation device and a whistle, so best ask the pilot to aim for a puddle! 😀

This has a joyful sweetness to it.

Enlightening and gentle towards the reader.

Careful choice of words. And I like your firm inner voice towards the end.

Excellent poem.

Neville,
"Can you not feel it in those pretty wings of yours?' That line was catching!
Who does not sometimes take themselves on 'A flight of fancy?'
so glad to be invited through this really cute write.
Regarding the fall and Icarus burned...fortunately even with time and
change these flights of imagination are what makes us human.
Loved it.

Please excuse & hopefully forgive this terribly late acknowledgement of your visit and kind .. read more
The flying is heavenly, the crash landings in the mud, not quite so appealing. This poem Neville has a universal flavour to it. Not surprised your lines resonate with your readers who appear familiar with the warning. Have a relaxing and happy weekend my friend.
