The Sweet Track

The Sweet Track

A Poem by Neville
"

a little bit of my very local heritage & associated history .. no embellishment whatsoever

"

The Sweet Track

From the Isle of Westhay

to the mouth

of good old, River Brue ..

And standing

just proud of our now

famous Wetlands

and the peatbogs below ..

Raised upon

four hundred year old

hand hewn

 English oak logs to serve

as an aid to

offer escape routes from

any would be

vile marauding invaders ..

Originally built

in 3807 BC and then later

re-discovered in

1970 by a Mr. Ray Sweet ..

Now part of

our Great British and local

   Somerset heritage ..

Your poem brings history to life in such a simple and powerful way. It feels like walking the Sweet Track itself... strong, steady, and full of heritage.
Splendid work my friend!
