Amid The Echo of Doves

Listen

to the echo

of doves

calling

from high

rafters

in these

old derelict

buildings

where I now

reside ..

Their

haunting

song,

a gentle

hymn ..

Bouncing

loud

off the walls

below

both hollow

but yet

still proud ..

It feels

like a trick

of time

just passing

me by ..

Yes, listen

by all means,

but don’t

you dare feel

obliged to

linger

anywhere

here all

on your own ..

With just

the ghost of

me by your side ..

A poem which speaks to me of memories. Doves have so much beautiful symbolism. Peace, purity, hope, spirituality, love. Echoes of the past. Your lines have a haunting quality. Best not linger where ghosts reside though, best to concentrate on the living. There is a darkness in the building, that makes this reader want to escape into the light. A lonely place. Very atmospheric Neville. Intriguing poetry. Can be interpreted in several ways. Have a super, duper cruise on the Pearl with your family. You lucky fella:)

This one feels hollow in the right way—abandoned space echoing a living voice. I like how the doves carry the weight, proud but empty, just like the speaker. That last warning lands quiet and sad, like someone who knows when it’s time to leave.
