Secrets Beneath The Soil

Secrets Beneath The Soil

A Poem by Ngirai

I know you've kept your secrets
Buried in your backyard,
Where the sun doesn't shed light.
We've all had our skeletons in our closets;
Sometimes truth is revealing when you show it.

When the rain pours to the ground,
Those flowers sprout, like secrets can't be kept forever.
Truth will somehow reveal itself, like one of those times
You never know what's behind your backyard.

Every day I live my life, hearing these old tales and the same stories,
Like one of those days when you wanted the truth.
You're broken inside and yet can't be healed;
Those secrets from your past will haunt you
Until the truth comes seeping through your door.

How can you live your life not knowing the truth?
All you've done is hide and shove it back in your grave?
When all you thought was that secrets would just lie underneath your ground,
All the dirty lies and hurtful secrets,

They've been buried in the back of your yard?
I know we'll never make amends; somehow my life was a mess, and all the burdens you have carried
Will end up seeing the light?
