Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle

A Poem by Ngirai

I waited for you near the fishing port.
I left this love letter inside a bottle.
I hope you received it from the faraway sea.
You said our love was like a million stars,

Easy to catch them one by one.
Would you even still love me?
Would you still care if I wrote to you,
A thousand miles away and waiting for your only messages?
I thought we were supposed to be together.

Until this dream came and bothered me.
I saw you with another man.
That broke my heart, maybe stung me like a jellyfish.
I didn't think I could start loving you.

That our love was like sand, leaving footprints behind.
All those memories were our stories and marks,
But the waves washed them away, and now I'm left with no memories of you.

Would you still love me if I got stranded on an island?
Lost at sea, with no land to be found?
Waiting for that message in a bottle for years and years,
If there is a sign of life and love around the corner,
Desperate for answers, if only love could bind us together.
If only God could create bridges and mend our hearts.
I believed you, and I didn't think you could walk away that easily!

So this message in a bottle might come your way, and I hope you might read it and reply.
Sending all my love and wishes to you,
I don't think I can stop thinking of you,
Even if we are miles apart, lost all contact, our connection with our hearts is still intertwined, and I know it's never easy to let go, waiting for that message to come.
